Admission requirements

Access to the first year of architectural studies is open to any holder of a baccalaureate (F), A level (GB), high school diploma (US) or equivalent level.

1. French and European applicants

Pre-application process on the Admission Post Bac (APB) website for the 2016-2017 academic year:

(Concerns French and European applicants with international baccalaureate, or A levels or High School diplomas, or in process of gaining it, and students that have completed one or two years of university studies, outside architecture studies)

1. Pre application on APB from January 20th to April 2nd 2016

To pre-enrol, you must register on the Admission Post Bac website. You will need an email address.

2. Test of admission

The enrolment applications for the 1st year level are taken into account within the limit of capacity.

The admission will take place according to the following schedule:

Admissibility after analysis and study of your school records: About 450 schools records selected.
Coefficients applied to the matters taken into account for the admissibility session
For those who obtained a professional A-Level or baccalaureate, there are no coefficients applied to matters. The school record will be examined as a whole in order to decide the admissibility.

The acceptable candidates will be convened for an interview, for which they won't need any specific preparation, and which will enable us to evaluate the candidate's motivation as well as her or his thinking's and expression's capacities.

Caution: only the candidates who will be preselected after their school records will do this interview.

List of acceptable candidates (published on May 2nd 2016)

Date of interview: May 14th 2016
Convocations will have been sent by postal mail on April 26th 2016.
Place: Ensag.

3. Results

The list of the admitted candidates for the 1st year of bachelor's level for the academic year 2016/2017 will be posted from June 8th 2016 onwards on the Admission Post Bac website. The actual date for posting the results will be communicated by APB).

No result will be given by telephone, or mail, or be posted.

4. Administrative registration

Successful candidates must then register with the Registrar's Office at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Grenoble around mid-July 2016.

2. International applicants (outside European Union) for the Master in Architecture

Application Process for the 2016-2017 academic year is closed.

Foreign applicants (outside the EU) who have a French baccalaureate, or who are in their final year in a French High school abroad, should follow the procedure applying to French students (Admission Post Bac).

For foreign candidates (outside the EU) who do not have a French baccalaureate but have an equivalent diploma, the enrolment procedure for the academic year 2016/2017 is closed.

Campus France Process:

For the nationals of the following countries : Algeria, Argentina, Benin, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville, South Korea, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, the United States, Gabon, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Maurice, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Senegal, Syria, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam, candidates must connect themselves to the online CES procedure of Campus France on : http/nameofcountry.campusfrance.org

Candidates residing in these countries, whatever the diploma prepared in the architecture schools (PHD, Specialized Diploma in Architecture ("DSA"), Diploma specific to the schools of architecture…) must connect themselves to the CEF website corresponding to their countries and follow the instructions given on this site (see the above link).

General Knowledge Test in French

The General Knowledge Test in French, ("TCF") is the official test of the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research, and of the Ministry of Culture and Communication.

Only Universities, schools of architecture, Embassies in France and the "CIEP" (International Center of Educational Studies) are accredited to organize sessions of the General Knowledge Test in French for the preliminary application ("DAP")

Thus the Ensag is accredited like center of examination for the General Knowledge Test in French. The test will be taking place at the Ensag on February 18th 2016.

The sessions of the General Knowledge Test in French for the preliminary admission application in order to enter a bachelor one year cycle or a school of architecture for the re-entry 2016 have been opened from October 2015 and will be definitely closed on February 22nd 2016 for the sessions organized in France and on February 12th for those organized abroad.

If you are abroad, you are invited to contact the services of co-operation and cultural activity of the French Embassy, or the Campus France space, or the accredited center for the General Knowledge Test in French the nearest to your residence.

If you are in France, the application to the General Knowledge Test in French for the preliminary admission application is carried out by internet (online application). You must connect yourself to this address on January 22nd 2016 at the latest, and you will find all the necessary steps for your application. Be careful, after this date, the access to the online application will be disabled.

Two possibilities will be given to you to carry out your regulation of 68 euros.

3. Applicants (French and international) to another course

4. Validation of skills for French and European students

Process for the 2016-2017 academic year is closed.

For holders of a one or two year University studies diploma, the enrolment procedure is the same as for baccalaureate holders.

For holders of a three-years University diploma or higher, admission to architecture studies is based on an application file (VAE).

For baccalaureate holders having a three years' professional experience, the admission to architecture studies is based on an application file (VAE).

Application fees are 37 euros (18,50 euros for grant holders).

Admission is not automatic but subject to examination by the validation of skills commission.

5. Transfer process

Mobility among French Architecture schools is handled through the so-called "transfer" process. Transfer is not automatically accepted and depends on the examination and validation by a commission, on the capacity of the school as well as the authorization of the director of the school of origin.

Outward transfer

Form to be downloaded from the Ensag website or to be withdrawn at the Ensag room 206.

Please hand in your request to Ensag room 206, fifteen days before the deadline given by the school you've applied to (this date may change from one school to the other).

The file is sent by the Ensag to the new school after opinion.

Inward transfer

Process for the 2016-2017 academic year is closed.

The inward transfer requests must be sent by your current school of architecture to Ensag by March 1st 2016 (postmark being taken). For this purpose, students wishing to obtain a transfer to the Ensag must constitute a specific* application file containing:

Both administrative and pedagogical files (which are different from the transfer application file) of the students admitted through the inward transfer process will have to be sent by the current school of architecture by June 9th 2016.

*The documents won't be returned, whether the student is admitted or not.

6. Obtain the diploma through continuing education

Lyon National School of Architecture allows employees or self-employed people to access continuing education, following a selection process, leading to a State Architect Diploma in 4 years. This education is meant for anyone who can justify a minimum of three years of professional activity in architecture, construction or environmental planning.

Scholarships

Applications for 2016-2017 means-tested scholarships can be made at the CROUS (Regional Centre for University and Social Organization) website of your local authority (Student Social File) from the end of January 2016.

The Student Social File allows you to apply for a scholarship subject to means testing and for a CROUS student residence.

Your local education authority branch of CROUS is your only contact, even if you wish to study in another region in 2016-2017.

Log in to the CROUS website between January 15th and April 30th 2016 and enter your personal file.

When you have entered all your information, write down and keep carefully:

You will receive a paper file within about two weeks, and will be asked to sign it and send it back within 8 Days to the CROUS at the address written on the file with all requested documents.

Student status

The Student status entitles you to CROUS (Regional Centre for University and Social Organization) services: restaurants, student residences, preventive medicine, social assistance, etc. and allows you to register for social insurance and student private health insurance.
